Sheriff Maiorano and SORT Team,
I am imploring your office to publish a clear, accessible Halloween safety notice, including the current registered sex offender addresses your office is authorized to release publicly, by close of business tomorrow: 5:00 p.m. Mountain on Thursday, October 29, 2026—not Friday, October 30.
Please put this information directly in front of families: prominently on the county website, on social media, and in a readable format that community organizations and local news outlets can share. Include the date the information was verified and a direct link to the official registry for updates.
Please also explain what Halloween restrictions actually apply in Gallup and McKinley County. Are there restrictions on handing out candy, attending children’s events, accompanying trick-or-treaters, displaying decorations, or remaining outside after certain hours? Do those restrictions apply to everyone on the registry, or only to individuals subject to particular supervision conditions?
Please coordinate with Probation and Parole so that the guidance accurately explains those distinctions. Families should not have to guess. Please identify which areas your notice covers and provide the appropriate tribal registry links for neighboring communities.
Families are planning now. A Friday notice leaves less time for that information to reach them. I am asking you to act by Thursday’s close of business.
Sir, if your office fails to publish this notice by that deadline, I WILL share the official public registry resources myself—and publish this request alongside them. The community will see exactly what you were asked to do, when you were asked, and whether you acted.
